How to flush your DNS cache

Answer

If you are having trouble getting to websites, you may need to tell your computer to remove or "flush" your DNS cache.  Please follow the directions for your operating system:

Windows 2000 & Windows XP:

  1. Click on 'Start' then 'Run'
  2. In the 'Open' textbox, type: ipconfig /flushdns
  3. click 'OK'
Windows Vista:
  1. Click on the start button.
  2. In the 'Start Search' box at the bottom of the Start Menu, type: ipconfig /flushdns
  3. Press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard.

Apple Macintosh OSX 10.4:

  1. Open 'Terminal' located in 'Macintosh HD' > 'Applications' > 'Utilities'.
  2. In the terminal type lookupd -flushcache and press 'return'.
  3. Quit the terminal and close the finder.

 

Apple Macintosh OSX 10.5:

  1. Open 'Terminal' located in 'Macintosh HD' > 'Applications' > 'Utilities'.
  2. In the terminal type dscacheutil -flushcache and press 'return'.
  3. Quit the terminal and close the finder.
