Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies.

To install, follow these instructions:

1. Navigate to http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html and download Spybot - Search & Destroy from one of the provided mirrors.
2. Run the file you downoaded.  It will be "spybotsdxxx.exe" where xxx represents the version number.
3. Choose 'English' and click 'OK'.
4. Click 'Next >', accept the liscense agreement and click 'Next >' again.
5. Do not change the destination location.  Click 'Next >'.
6. Do not change any components.  Click 'Next >'.
7. Do not change the start menu folder.  Click 'Next >'.
8. Under 'Select Additional Tasks', uncheck "Use Internet Explorer protection" and uncheck "Use system settings protection".  Click 'Next >'.
9. Click 'Install'.  Allow spybot to update, then it will install.
10. Click 'Finish'.

Whenever using Spybot - Search & Destroy, be sure to update it before doing a scan.  To update, follow these directions:

1. Click on 'Search for Updates'.  A new window will appear.
2. Choose a server from the list that ends with (USA).  Click 'Continue'.
3. Make sure all updates are checked and click 'Download'.
4. After the updates have downloaded, click 'Exit'.

To scan:

1. Click on 'Check for problems'.
2. When the scan is done, make sure all the malware found has checkmarks next to them and click 'Fix Selected Problems'.
