==== Answer: Error 680 ==== Error 680 is caused because the computer does not have dial tone. There are many things that have to be checked to fix this error. Please check all of these items:\\ - Is the phone cord plugged into the correct jack on the back of your computer? It needs to be plugged into a telephone jack, not an ethernet jack. (An ethernet jack is similar looking to a telephone jack but it is larger.) The phone cord needs to be plugged into the jack on the back of your computer marked 'line'. If it is plugged into the jack marked 'phone' or has a picture of a telephone handset next to it, switch it to the other jack. Some manufacturers will put a green marking next to the correct jack. - Is the line cord ok? Replace the cord between the wall and the back of the computer and see if that makes a difference. - Is there dialtone on the line? Disconnect the phone cord from the back of the computer and plug it into a standard telephone. Pick up that telephone and see if there is dialtone. If there is no dialtone, you may have a problem with the wiring in your house or your phone service. - If the computer is still getting this error after checking the above steps, the computer will need to be physically looked at by a technician to see if your dial-up modem needs to be replaced.
